Everyone who has been in a work environment will have faced stress or anxiety one way or another within their workplace and sometimes you face a challenge when you’re least expecting it. This can be because of feeling the pressure of deadlines, dreading working with your manager breathing down your neck or in some cases, what your future prospects are and whether you will progress. Regardless of the type of job, stressful elements can become apparent even if you really enjoy your job. When work stress becomes to difficult to deal with it can be overwhelming and be a harm to both physical and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes these feelings of anxiety or stress can be ignored and pushed to the bottom of the pile but it is important to deal with them sooner rather than later as they can get worse over time.

So what do we do when we are feeling stressed or anxious at work? How do we combat these feelings in order to still work effectively and not damage our health? It is no secret that they can be difficult to overcome but hopefully our little tips can help you to keep calm and assess situations by working through them and you can become stronger and more confident.

Here are some easy steps to dealing with your stress/anxiety could include:

1) Try to keep calm and relaxed
Remember to breathe, using breathing techniques can be effective as it stabilizes the amount of oxygen getting to the brain allowing you to remain in control and think clearer.

2) Attempting to look at the problem from all sides
Seeing the issue from another perspective will allow you to gain a deeper understanding and potentially identify the root cause which will in turn make it easier to create a solution.

3) Making a list of possible solutions using good and bad points
Creating a list of pro’s and con’s will allow you to analyse and weigh everything up. This will allow you to make an informed decision of how relevant the stress is and potentially the best way to deal with the issues.

4) Choose a solution and test it out
There may be multiple methods that you can adopt in order to combat these feelings and if you never try then you will never know. Trial and error can often be the best way!

Always remember that sometimes you may not be able to overcome the stresses or anxiety on your own and it is perfectly okay to ask someone for help when you need it. Your mental and physical health is just as important as your job and without it, it may make it harder for you to do your job.
